Several exciting debuts are in store as the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra prepares for its 2019-20 season, the 101st in the ensemble’s history.
The season opener on October 5 will feature the debut of the Bemis Steinway & Sons Model C Grand Piano, a magnificent gift that will enhance the concert experience for both the musicians and the audience.
At the March 14 concert, Cycropia Aerial Dance will join the SSO on stage. Based in Madison, Wis., Cycropia was formed in 1989 and is one of the oldest continuously-operating aerial dance troupes within the United States. The performance is sure to delight the audience and offer an unforgettable experience that showcases the breathtaking grace, elegance and athleticism of aerial dance choreographed to the glorious sounds of the SSO.
Other season highlights include:
- A rousing tribute to our veterans in November with an evening of patriotic music.
- A return of Handel’s “Messiah” for the annual December concert, which has become a Sheboygan Holiday tradition.
- A performance of Welsh composer Karl Jenkins’ 1999 work “The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace,” which is dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis, to close the season in May.
“The season ahead will surprise, stir and inspire you with new literature and old favorites that will make you smile, offer relaxation and bring hope and joy,” said SSO Music Director and Conductor Kevin McMahon, who is entering his 10th season in Sheboygan.
