The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra launches its 2017-2018 Season at the Weill Center for the Performing Arts spotlighting beloved classical composers and our own principal cellist. Conductor and Music Director, Kevin McMahon, stated, “A delightful season opening concert is available, called ‘Mozart and Tchaikovsky.’ The program centers around two of the finest and well-loved, historical composers, as we share the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.”

Weill Center will reverberate with thunderous fortissimos, echo classical trills and showcase the clear voices of the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus. An exhilarating mix of majestic music will move patrons as they enjoy many traditional classics as well as compositions new to orchestra and audience, including the US Premier of Paus’ Timpani Concerto.
Classical Mystery Tour will be returning to the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts for the first time in 12 years to play with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra on June 17.
Enjoy the season’s finale concert Saturday, May 13th as the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, along with vocal soloist Laquita Mitchell, celebrate the world’s greatest opera choruses. Griffin Montes Fourth graders from across Sheboygan County converged on the Weill Center on Wednesday for a special Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra concert just for them.
The March concert entitled “With a Little Help From My Friends” will include Brahms Piano Concerto No.2 performed by Li-shan Hung on piano and contemporary, Christian music performed by Pastor David Weber. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11th, at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for Performing Arts.

On Saturday, Nov. 15 the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will be joined by master musician Jing Wang on the erhu performing the “Crouching Tiger Concerto,” a concert work based on the Oscar-winning score for the film, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” “The erhu is fascinating for the sound, the view from far away that the hands are moving in air, and for the fact that a non-Western or world music is represented by this instrument,” said Kevin McMahon, SSO music director. This is the first time in the SSO’s 96 years that the group is performing in collaboration with an erhu musician.
Jing erhu studio 2 An instrument most indicative of China is the erhu. Described by some as a two-stringed fiddle, the sounds are sophisticated and mesmerizing. Credited with introducing the erhu into Western contemporary music is Jing Wang, known worldwide for her erhu mastery and compositions.
Kudos to the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, conductor Kevin McMahon, soloist Alan Morrison, and the supporting staff for an outstanding concert in the beautiful Stefanie Weill Center. The orchestra’s solid performance of familiar excerpts from Mozart’s “Magic Flute,” Bizet’s “Carmen” and Jongen’s powerful “Symphonie Concertante“ made for a delightful musical evening.
“Music needs to be shared and enjoyed by all people. For me, it matters not whether I play in a concert hall or small church. Audiences in both places benefit the same from experiencing music,” said one of America’s premier organists, Alan Morrison.
