One of the most respected and acclaimed flutists performing today, Carol Wincenc has appeared as soloist with major orchestras worldwide and has premiered works written for her by numerous prominent composers.
Hailed "Queen of the Flute" (New York Magazine) at the outset of her now, stellar 45 year career, flutist Carol Wincenc continues to delight audiences with her signature charismatic, high virtuosity and deeply heartfelt musicality. Whether concerto soloist, Grammy winning recording artist, devoted chamber music performer, or professor/mentor to now luminaries in the professional flute world, Ms. Wincenc continues to be the muse of today's legendary composers, including Rouse, Foss, Gorecki, Tower, Heggie, Higdon, Schoenfeld, Uebayashi, and Musical America's "Composer of the Year," Tod Machover.
Most recently she recorded an all Uebayashi album with the award winning Escher String quartet, Stephen Gosling, Emil Nauomoff, and Tanya Dusevic Witek. She has also performed in Prague, Venice, Warsaw, Banff and Nice, and concluded the 2015-16 season with a solo recital at Weill Carnegie Hall for the "Naumburg Looks Back" series, as the sole grand prize flute winner of that prestigious competition in 1978.
The 2016-17 season includes performances as soloist with orchestra, as well as her groups (Les Amies Trio with New York Philharmonic Principals: Nancy Allen, harpist, and Cynthia Phelps, violist; and the New York Woodwind Quintet), in Boston, Seattle, Anchorage, Los Angeles, Columbus, Buffalo, Iowa City, Tucson, Raleigh, Moscow, Edmonton, San Antonio, Beijing, and Seoul. She recently has returned from an extensive tour teaching and performing in China, South Korea and the west coast. She is an exclusive Burkart Flute Artist and represents Burkart Flutes worldwide. Her customary 10 Summer festivals include Sarasota, Dallas, Fredericksburg, Round Top, Yale-Norfolk, Banff, Rockport, Academie Musicale de Nice, CSU Summer Arts, and the National Flute Association Convention. Additionally, she can be heard with the Chamber Music Society of both Palm Beach and Lincoln Center in 2017.
Her numerous books and publications with Lauren Keiser/Hal Leonard receive praise and acclaim in the series, The 21st Century Complete Flutist. She has been an Artist Faculty member at Stony Brook University, and her alma mater, the Juilliard School for four decades collectively. She had the privilege of working directly with such legendary musical luminaries as Aaron Copland, Olivier Messaien, Jean Pierre Rampal, YoYo Ma, Jessye Norman, Rudolf Serkin, Joshua Bell, Christoph Eschenbach, Loren Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Philip Glass, Andre Previn, Paul Simon and Judy Collins to name a few.
Mother of her musician son, Nicola Wincenc, and the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Wincenc, both major influences in the musical life of Buffalo, NY, Ms. Wincenc has concertized on five continents and loves nothing more than "giving back" to communities world wide.
