Michael Lund Ziegler, Director, Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra
2016/17 marks Michael Lund Ziegler's first season as Director of the Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra. A passionate believer in the immense musical potential within everyone, Michael continually strives to find new depths within music, leaning on the startling connective tissue it begs from all involved. In addition to his role with the Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony, Michael directs the orchestra at Ripon College, and is serving as Interim Director of Bands at St. Norbert College while directing the band and teaching music history at Lakeland University. Michael spends his summers with Music for the Sake of Music, a non-profit organization he co-founded in Green Bay focused on providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to create and enjoy music at a high level. Previously, Michael served as Music Director and Conductor of the East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of East Central Indiana, and as Assistant Conductor of the Muncie (IN) Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Michael served as secondary music teacher at Aldo Leopold Community School where he directed bands, orchestras, choirs, musical, and jazz band. While at Aldo, Michael presided over a growing music program that saw nearly every middle school student-96%-participating in at least one performing ensemble.
Michael's primary conducting instructors include Douglas Droste, Thomas Caneva, and Randall Meder. He has had additional study with Kevin Collins, Gary Green, and Andrew Mast. Michael holds degrees from Ball State University and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and has studied at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. Michael resides in Green Bay with his wife Melissa, daughter Abigail, and pup Louie.
